Pure pop songs a la Squeeze or Elvis Costello (from whose 1986 song the band takes its name), driven by infectious hooks and intelligent lyrics.
The NYC trio does not skimp on the sit-in musicians and additional instrumentation; guitarist Alan Walker also contributes sweet piano, Wurlitzer, and Hammond lines to these little confections about (what else) the ups and downs that come after "boy meets girl." The entire album is solid, all radio-length tracks. It will put a bounce in your step and give you hope for the future. Clean.

Try: #1 - reminiscent of Ben Folds in his more subdued moments, not stupid at all; #3 - grabs you immediately and stays catchy throughout; #6 -
heart-tugger of plaintive vocals and gentle piano, plus string quartet; #7 - rocks harder, more Kinks-style; #11 - nice harmonies, features Bob Dylan bandmember Larry Campbell on pedal steel and banjo.
