Album Review
Decca
Reviewed 2004-04-13
Decca says, “yum!” This “greatest hits” release is a predictably impressive retrospective for this Senegalese singer/guitarist. His music combines elements of African music with touches of Latin, R&B, rock, pop, and jazz. Lyrics in French, English, & Wolof. It’s sexy, captivating, and so well done. I’ll play it all, but especially these:

1. The only new release on the CD. Rich, mid-tempo & joyful.
2. A sexy Euro-pop seduction w/warm male & female vocals.
3. Incredible vocal harmonies, changing tempos. Powerful.
4. Male vocals, relaxed mid-tempo call/response. Bright.
6. Bright & swinging w/a touch of the Caribbean & a bit of jazz.
9. A big Afro-European dance groove.
10. Sweet vocal harmonies in an African take on Talking Heads.
13. Spare & quiet w/soft, sweet vocals & a gentle sense of peace.
14. Programming, chorus, growling vocals, sax, a nice groove.
15. Afro-Rai meets European dance.
17. Sweet, bouncy, almost silly.
19. Spooky male chants, drums, growling vox. Haunting
