Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2004-05-25
Noise rock-but wait! This has very heavy early Sonic Youth (Burning Spear era) no-wave DNA, Swans, and Glenn Branca guitar/tribal drum stylings. Its all so dense and electronics swirl about that it sits well with noiseters like Mindflayer, Lightning Bolt. But a closer listen reveals complexity and artfulness. These guys are a quantum leap in the evolution of noise rock. Debut record from Brooklyn.

1) old DNA/Branca no-wave undertone to this noisey tribal slurry
2) tribal overall, some buried vocalizations, early SY crossed w/ Swans maybe?
3) flailing about feel, brief, sound like the end cacophony of SY’s track “Inhuman”
4) beautiful looping expolosive percussion with warm blanket of drony layers of sound, some “subliminal” voices, settles into a pleasant rhythmic pulse- leads into next piece
5) low key “industrial tone” in the old school sense- perfect soundbed or hypnotic fades into next track
6) looping electro percussion w/ chill sound loops, very Throbbing Gristle- until it evolves into tribal drumfest eventually becoming near electro-rock
7) disjunct noise fest w/ vocs, becomes pounding
