Chalk Dust Dream of the Tea Cozy Mitten Company Mellow, warm, happy-go-lucky nonsensical 60s pop with soft British-esque vox. Hug everyone! Like variations on “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds”: long silly names of songs, with childishly nonsensical images. (also said to be inspired by CA “psych-country” bands, and the Clientele.) Mostly flowing midtempos, a pleasantly blended mix of acoustic guitars and some elec. guitars with fluty “Mellotron” synths, other fun stuff. (note: not, apparently, actually from England—it’s just the aesthetic.) 1. (2:12) driving on a perfect shady day—midtempo acoustic guitars and perc 2. (5:00) more Mellotron synth and elec. guitars 3. (0:10) short fluty mellotron piece 4. *(3:06) a funky bassline, catchy 5. (2:50) “the city’s such a happy scene, it gets you high”—warm and squishy 6. (0:32) warm synth accordion morphs to metallic crashes 7. *(2:26) bit faster, energetic, twangy, some spacy noises 8. (2:42) grooovy: birdcalls, Mellotron, buzzy guitar, “airplane” sounds 9. *(2:44) shake those tambourines! Faster, w/ heavier bassline; sitar at end 10. *(4:16) slower, echoing, bell-like guitars; train stations in the misty rain 11. (2:18) folksy acoustic strumming over cushy sound bed (tune quotes Brahms’ lullaby?) —Reviewed by mandy (la chanteuse) |
