There’s no denying that this is pleasant electronic music, reminiscent in places of Kraftwerk. Deep bass grooves, pleasant swirls of melody, and chill-out-to rhythms characterize the album. Then again, similar could be claimed for dozens, if not hundreds, of albums. For what it is, good melodic chill, it’s fine.
1. Especially Kraftwerk-ian, what with the Vocoder snippets and a mid-tempo groove
2. Slow shuffle and slowly shifting theme
3. Queasy detuning effects over a chunky riddim
4. By-the-numbers, really
5. Pleasant breaks and simple melody
6. Nutrition-free ear candy
7. Third-rate Aphex Twin weirdness
8. Sinking into faux-uZiq-isms now with the bits of drill inserted into otherwise unremarkable blurpings
9. Static in that no matter where I drop the virtual needle, I hear the same three seconds of music
10. OK, a wee bit evocative of a desert (or “desrt”) but not as strongly as in the way that Scenic’s dry music can evoke it
11. I like these tracks with places in the title – it gives a hook to hang a hat on; yes, this does sound as if it belongs on a cold Northern sea
12. Prominent cymbals set this apart from most would-be-chill music; nice drum track
13. Unmemorable
14. Chopped up bits held together only by a solid groove; hooray for aural surprises
