Guitar legend Derek Bailey teams up with the one-man noisemaker Milo Fine, who plays drums, clarinets, and keyboards. Freely improvised; abstract sound constructions. They've got a nice rapport, and Fine's instrument switching keeps things lively on the long opening track (he plays one instrument on each of the other three tracks.)
For the uninitiated: Bailey has spent almost five decades developing his own guitar language that uses notes, chords and harmonics in a chattery, non-tonal way.
1- Quiet and restrained. Bailey focuses on long tones and harmonics.
Fine opens with drum clatter, switching at around -22:00 to quieter
piano and clarinet.
Last 10 minutes get noisy again. (Total time 32:06)
2- Clarinet showcase. Opens with frantic squeaking, then a few quiet
minutes. (Time 4:34)
3- Splashy, dark piano. Starts quiet, perks up after a while. (Time 5:36)
4- Just guitar and drums. Busy at first, gets into a near-silent stretch in the middle. Gets busy again for the last 4 minutes. (Time 15:41)
