Your Imaginary Friend Reviewed 2004-08-12 | ||
Field recordings of dragonflies and other insects in Burma. Hard to believe that these sounds are not treated or augmented with high frequency synths like the liner notes claim, this is some surreal, ethereal, ambient, trippy experimental. Bird and other environmental sounds are present as well. The title is taken from the Burmese legend that these insects make these sounds after mating, so loud and desperate that their chests explode (apparently the ground is littered with dead insects with exploded chests), that their hearts have broken with love. 1) high frequencies, rise and fall, very chill 2) more of the same, a tad more pensive with thunderstorms and owl sounds 3) mic seems closer to an individual bug, surreal, long 4) briefer, more radio friendly continuation of previous, ends early with dead air so be aware |
