Your Imaginary Friend Reviewed 2004-08-12 | ||
New album from German female duo who are arguably the inventors of “electroclash” (“Peaches’ first show was supporting Cobra Killer”-one sheet). Just when you thought you were sick of new wave revival, “electro” clash, smash, trash whatever, these stalwarts give you this, guaranteed to rekindle your faith in sequencers, samplers, and sexy women duo’s who know just where that button is inside you that needs to be pushed (or at least fiddled with toyingly). Their strength is not relying on worn out Human League’isms but delving into what sounds like 60’s garage as well as the OMD. But the bottom line is these two women really got the beat, I mean the girls’s got rhythm, the backseat rhythm. If this doesn’t get your hips swaying and your toes tapping then you must be entering first stage rigor mortis. 1) upbeat new-wavey electro rock, but you gotta check out the “guitar solo in the bridge 2) auf deutsch, straight up robotic dance beat electroclash 3) oh fuck me, heres the one with the irrepressible sex beat that will get you off your ass 4) intro sample of what sounds like Crime and the City Solution/Nick Cave, turns quickly to a 60’s spy surfy rock feel thing, wow! 5) uh oh another irrepressible beat… is every track on this CD going to be worth highlighting? 6) more swingy mid paced kickass beat 7) rather chill waltzy romantic feel 8) some dudes join in, silly disco’y with sex-allusions that Peaches trademarked…just comes across as an ode to genital herpes….sorry 9) here we go, the sentiment that made new wave so refreshing ca. 1982, sexy, made you dance all night in a frenzy 10) hip hop MC feel in intro, turns total shprocketts euro weenie dance/tanzen musik auf deutsch 11) yoga sample is used as theme to this 1960’s go-go dance warp-out mash up mess 12) fun beat, echoey and strange 13) did I say irrepressible beat? Well, they are ending the CD with this one, so you can only imagine how good it is…whew |
