Your Imaginary Friend Reviewed 2004-09-15 | ||
Female fronted trio (two sisters and a guy drummer), incredible creative rock. Words totally fail me, even comparisons. Moments of Gang of Four, maybe a smattering of Casual Dots, even a whiff of the kick ass beat sensibilities of Peaches/Cobra Killer (but this isn’t electrorock, -clash by any means). The primary vocalist will melt you, a huskier voice than most, with a sass not heard by me since the queen herself, Chrissy Hynde. Perfectly produced, perfectly written, performed, I really cant find the words to do this justice. Deep searing bass, crunchy creative dissonace, guitars. Bad ass spunky drumming. The husky vocalist steps aside at times to allow more “typical” female vocal stylings, but she comes back to wrap things up. This is an awesome cd, definitely in my top ten for 2004. Wow. 1) slow bass fade in, builds with tom tom beat into hip swinging rocker, deep vocs 2) Gang of Four disjunct guitar heavy feel, wow- great rocker w/ bassline to die for 3) sexy beat, rhythm, husky voice steps aside for more “fem” vocs, commentary on fantasies 4) sexy bass, tom tom rhythm powered w/ saxaphone exotica flavorings, tasty bass treatments, wow! 5) big fuzz bass and driving rock beat, deep gruff vocs lead 6) spacey-pensive, electro percussion happening, dark, almost goth 7) tribal swing, deep vocalist returns, call/answer vocs |
