Mainstream jazz, well played but with fewer surprises than Wilson's previous albums. That's because it's mostly covers, which means we miss the chummy, upbeat style of Wilson's own writing.
The album feels like a Wilson retrospective of his own influences, and it's got some variety to that effect. Overall very "nice," but it's got tracks like 2,4, and 9 to keep it from being labeled "harmless."
- Bright; old-fashioned feel.
- Nicely cooking little piece, w/organ. Starts a bit corny.
- Mid/slow, a nice bluesy bebop feel
- Stormy flow over mellow vocals from cheesy-jazz guy Curtis Stigers. Not nearly as bad as you'd think; Stigers' lines are sampled during the trumpet solo for a spacey effect
- Slow and comforting
- Cuban: Jaunty popping feel with tom drums
- Slow, with touches of gospel feel
- Mid/slow nightclub dancing music
- Fast bebop
- Closing-credits reprise of #4
