The Bawd Of Euphony Reviewed 2005-01-12 | ||
Holy Shit Gary Wilson has a new record. Gary kinda became a cult hero when his music from the late 70’s and early 80’s we reissued on CD (We have both reissues in the library). Now low and behold Gary releases a new record and it sounds like he picked up exactly where he left off: Lots of sythy melodies, quasi-disco beats, strange moods and endless songs about making out and hooking up with chicks. He kind of sounds like a bad wedding band from the 80’s, but in some weird way I like it. Often times he’ll break out with complete weird noise as well. Gary Wilson is a mystery. Listen and feel icky. –the bAWd of eUPHONY 1(0:52) “A very small town’ repeated by Gary, then 20 seconds of synth melody 2**(2:18) Song about Linda, Gary on Nitrus singing, straight mid rock beat. Odd 3*(1:22) Gary Crying with rain sounds, pulsing syth, Moaning woman. quick instrumental. 4**(3:10) Kareoki beat, gary wailing, some dirty guitar. He loves Debbie now. 5* (2:03) warped yelling with Bass and chaos brewing. Syth swelling. Whats he building in there? 6**(2:03) ride the disco spaceship. This song is hilarious. Gary’s in the Park… 7 (2:00) Sythy intro into a quirky 4/4 white groove. Another song about girls 8**(1:41) Lullabye spoken, lots of keys, free saxaphone. Creepy 9** (5:05) Song of deception. Power ballad? Gets real freaky and slow and dark. 10**(2:03) Moody keys start with bass then a serious Doobie Brothers groove hits. Led by an organ solo, very cool 11* (2:20) Another quirky vocal song about electric depression 12 (1:22) Dark spoken piece with keys and noise. Very weird 13* (2:14) another disco stomp about a woman. Gary sure loves talking about himself 14 (0:46) Instrumental demented carnivalesque song. Epic and short 15***(7:08) BONUS TRACK. One of my favorites from the original reissues, although this is a longer different version. Middle section gets totally free! I love it!!! 16***(2:28) BONUS TRACK. Another fav from the old gary records, once again a different version. Very funky with open spacey sections. I love all the time changes! Moody |
