Album Review
The Bawd Of Euphony
Reviewed 2005-03-08
Cerberus Shoal are a musical collective who dwell in the Northeast caverns of Maine. This CD is a reissue of their 1995 debut LP. Here you can here the roots of CS digging back to Slint, Neurosis, & Rodan. Epic post-rock instrumentals with some distant spoken vox. This is a very different sound from the newer Cerberus Shoal, which has a more Freak-folk shell. A great historical document with some great playing –the bAWd of eUPHONY

1** (2:44) a page right out of the Slint songbook. Slow with harmonics into distorted bursts.
2** (11:25) Sweeping melodic guitar and bass with fuzzed out sections and spoken vox. Very epic.
3*** (4:56) Spoken vox, beautiful guitar and bass melody. Soft build but stays melodic.
4** (7:31) Pretty guitar intro into mellow coasting feel. Spoken vox. Distorted bursts enter.
5** (6:23) Upbeat melodic guitar groove w/ spoken vox. Rocks out in middle.
6* (5:20) Another version of first song (ends at 5:20) with secret hidden track at (9:43)
