Album Review

Jazz vocals with innovative touches; a modern NPR/Starbucks feel rather than a rehash of standards. Admittedly a bit slick but offers some new ideas and fresh challenges -- lyrically as well as musically (e.g. the political turn on #9).

Barber is a vocalist and songwriter but also a pianist and doesn't mind doing instrumentals here and there. The band includes piano, guitar, bass, drums.

1- Easygoing singer/songwriter feel
2- Mellow and pleasant; acoustic guitar
3- Almost fusion: Chugging midtempo, nice piano & guitar solos. (Inst.)
4- Slow ballad
5- Midtempo and spare, w/cool, echoey space guitar
6- Slow
7- Cocktail-jazz instrumental, mid/fast and upbeat
8- Beatles cover. Starts slow with rolling piano; gets into a faster, crisp soloing segment. A rare Beatles jazz cover that works!
9- Fast and ear-catching, with blurry strumming on guitar. Monologue on white sovereignity.
10- Slow, with '50s pop-jazz melody
