The Haitian (now based in NY) diva delivers a strong release that celebrates her Rasin Kreyol (Creole roots). Ranging from pop to jazz, to more traditional sound, all tracks feature her rich, warm, emotional voice. Backed by a strong band w/some especially good percussion. Most songs w/a political message. In French & Creole *1. Starts lazy, gets into a nice lively sound. 2. Upbeat Calypso/jazz groove. *3. Mostly midtempo w/nice work from chorus/band. Sweet. 4. Child talking, down/midtempo, lightly swaying. *5. Bright, jazz-infused love song w/a Caribbean feel. 6. Sexy mid/uptempo blend of voices/horn/perc. 7. Reggae-infused AIDS-awareness song. 8. Haunting blend of voices. Slow, almost creepy. Too short. *9. Upbeat & driving w/some great percussion. *10. Fast, funky blend of horns/perc/vocals. 11.Spoken, only :14 long, can go right into 12. *12. Perc, wordless vocals. Midtempo, full of yearning. |
