Submission Hold have changed a lot and now make off-kilter, politically focused indie-ish rock sounding inspired by The Ex, Fugazi but not really sounding that much like either. Jen’s voice works rather well but the songs around it don’t always work. Kind of a hard album to get around overall but the passion & energy are still there.
(((1))) Bass-y, nice vocals, strummy guitars. The sound of KZSU circa ‘95-’96 for sure.
((2)) Drags on too long & too much variation that doesn’t work.
(((3))) Well-sung vocals, slow build up, pretty good bass & drum sound.
(((4))) Like Pram or Stereolab sans the electronics, turns into herky, jerky indie-rock
((5)) Experimental noodling, interesting lyrics re: gentrification but mostly kinda ‘eh’.
((((6)))) Nice big drum sound, jazzy, fast guitars & bass. Strange but captivating vocal delivery.
(((7))) Sloooow bass, cymbal brushes like Low or The For Carnation but builds into louder rock-ish bursts.
((8)) Stop & start bass/drums, twangy guitar, should be shorter.
(((9))) Nice vocals, slow backing cymbals, guitar notes, a few cresendos, rendundant as hell chorus.
