First album in ten year from Bay Area sadcore band. Mark Eitzel’s band before and (now) after solo stuff. Much of the sound relies on his plaintive vocals and interesting arrangements. Mostly on the softer side of things. From the sound of it, all of this could be Mark Eitzel solo stuff. Like much of Mark Eitzel’s stuff, this is to an extent hit or miss, though it is more consistent overall than. -Adrian 1. Starts out noisy and it looks bad, but it settles and turns out well. noisy, slight jazzy piano. 2. soft-sung. acoustic guitar, soft drums. 3. pounded piano and strong drums. almost funky, but not. 4. voice with soft backing, then guitar comes in. 5. voice with soft organ backing, light drums, noisy later 6. vox with harmonies, space in the middle of the song. 7. radio-vocals, soft piano 8. guitar, repeating piano. 9. finger-picked guitar, piano, interesting percussion, fade out. 10. fuzz bass, rim shot drums, horns(?) 11. sort of honky tonk, peters out at the end 12. soft vocals and lyrics 13. long (7:37), soft beginning, builds (trumpet!). distortion, fades out |
