Z’EV – Headphone Musics 1 to 6/As is As (Touch)
Normally Z’EV creates electro-acoustic music but this time he has gone completely to tape manipulated/edited music concrete. Created from source material recorded to tape, often field recordings and edited on tape this boils down to noise and found sounds with subtle tape tricks. I find it interested that there are not any loops and I also find it interested how adamant he is about listening to this on headphones. Sure, it is cool to listen to this with headphones, but crank this on a nice stereo and not only scare the shit out of your neighbors but maybe even scare yourself. It ends up dark and scary like an empty warehouse that is making noises you can’t exactly explain. He’s been around a long time. He started releasing music in the early 80s and this is his 12th album.
**1. Water and other noises that sound like scary animals.
**2. More minimal midrange drone and thudding sounds. This track gets very noisy like the inside of a factory combined with a shipyard.
3. Lower frequency sounds which sounds like slowed down circus noises.
4. High pitched noises and what sounds like bells.
5. Like track 2.
6. Hard to place sounds.
7. Live track that’s fairly noisy. Sounds like some manipulated vocals.
