Album Review

"Theatrical... music mixed with a pirate swagger that somehow seems fit for the vaudeville or cabaret stages." (right there on the jewel case sticker - pretty damned apt). Member of Slim Cessna's Auto Club leads a circus-like dramatic ensemble featuring toy pianos, organs, brass, you name it. Their dramatic "dark masquerade" quality brings to mind Waits, circus-like Nick Cave, with a decidedly hillbilly flavor. Cool epic interesting stuff.

1) epic, big waltzing slight carny flavor, minor dark feel, w/ southwestern trumpet
2) upbeat quirky story telling quality, brass, the works
3) very story telling, dark organ and horn centered
4) slow swing, a bit rougher a la Nick Cave and them bad seeds, recorded live
5) just banjo and singing, has a bluegrass quality
