COLL: Kiss Or Kill - Los Angeles Classics > Vol. 1 (War Room) This is a pretty good collection of power-pop, glam & punk from the LA scene of right now. ((1)) The Randies- Half-good power-pop, 70’s-styled female trio. The bad half is the vocal harmonies are too saccarine. (((2))) Deadbeat Sinatra - Totally L.A. sounding, totally Social D. mixed with later Adolescents. ((3)) The Dollyrots - Power-pop & a tad of punk, minus side is the girl-on-helium vox. (4) Midway - Cars/Weezer nerd rock with female vocals, striving for Top 40 or maybe just Live 105. (5) Billion Stars - Cowbell, 70’s swagger that’s crapped out on lame “funny guy” pop. (((6))) Bang Sugar Bang - Twangy, power-pop, punk & 60’s harmonies + solid female vocals. ((((7)))) Zeitgeist Auto Parts - Lo-fi, snarling, 70’s & early 90’s punk. The Dead Boys meets Babes In Toyland? I like! ((8)) The O. A.O. T.’s - Modern power-pop, Elvis Costello & The Plimsouls style. ((((9)))) The Letter Openers - Melodic yet raw driving garage punk, hella rockin’! ((10)) Silver Needle - Later-era Replacements strummy, typical “modern rock/pop”. ((11)) King Cheetah - A blues-y, twang is nice but a Bono-sounding singer is creepy! |
