Mike Keneally & Metropole – The Universe Will Provide

Former “stunt guitarist” from Zappa’s late 80s band trying out an orchestra. It’s a decent, well thought-out album, but it seems like he’s wearing his Zappa costume a little too much here. This features quirky orchestral compositions with a lot of guitar, those familiar with Zappa’s later orchestral/Synclavier albums will feel right at home.

1. Sappy orchestral ballad
2. Alternates between full orchestra and rock
3. Mellow med-tempo groove
4. Short burst of strings
*5. Quiet start, then goes bombastic with plenty of guitar
6. Long suite, lots of tempo and timbre changes
7. Slow & subdued
*8. Lively Zappa-esque funk rock
*9. Funky percussion solo
10. A second short burst of strings
11. Mellow ending
12. Orchestral interlude
*13. Almost jazzy acoustic guitar builds to groove
