Nels Cline (guitars, fx), Anrdea Parkins (keys, accordion, samples) & Tom Rainey (drums) are each luminary experimentalists in their own right. Having them join forces takes it to a new level. Mostly dark themes with quirky sounds & rhythms, this record really holds together well for a spontaneously created improv. All songs have rich sense of dynamics and what seem to be movements (a similar feel to Nel’s Destroy All CD). The music created is both fierce and patient, at times bombastic and at other times spacious and open. I can see this becoming one of my favorite atavistic releases. All tracks are rad!

** (4:38) Swells of feedback & cymbals turn into fluttery rock avalanche. Signature Nels melodies. Rhythm morphs into a tribal dance.
(7:54) Schizo organ and Guitar freak & spaz out with the drums. Pretty out all around.
**(6:38) Spooky mellow guitar swells w/ piano melody. Dark and minimal. Rumbly noise turns back into moody piano and guitar. Real nice!
*(12:36) Field recording-like sounds with open drum comping builds. Nels introduces a theme. Nice sense of movement in this one. Organ freakout is rad. Mellows out half way through. Gets tweeky again with theme re-entering at end. Love this one!
(3:46) This is warped! Sounds like a toy soldier being molested by a muppet.
*** (11:54) My fav track. Fuzzy intro. Rhythm starts to lock in a bit over organ and guitar swells. Lots of space with weird chirping sounds. Real dreamy. Nels comes in with an epic signature Cline dirge. Total freakout follows over dirge. Tribal crazyness rocks it till end.
*** (15:19) Rhythmic guitar melody starts and drums freely groove overtop with spazy organ. Drums and guitar lock into a Nels loop. Open freakyness floats along. Groove re-enters then forms into a bombastic freakout.
