Andy Scherrer – Serenity
A tribute to Joe Henderson put together by a European quintet. Scherrer does a nice Henderson on the sax, and the rhythm section holds it down well. There’s not much reinterpretation going on here, but it’s good to see an underappreciated (at least compositionally) artist get his due.
*1. Fast bop, but still lush & harmonically rich
2. Slower group improvisation on a bop theme
*3. Lightly funky
4. Pretty ballad
5. Uptempo romp
6. Tender ballad
*7. Speedy tangled blues
