Shellshag "Shellshag" – Raw rough stripped-down rock. This male/female duo puts out some nice minimal rock on this EP (recorded by Pavement's Gary Young). Raw simple guitars and drums (without bass drum or cymbals). Vocals are both male and female, often spoken/sung. It's also recorded in a way that the stereo separation is sometimes really apparent. On some songs guitar is exclusively in the left channel with drums in the right. All the songs are fun and worth checking out.
My Picks: 1, 4
Katie P. 5/19/05

1)Solid midtempo with a repetitive guitar line. Simple drums. Male and female spoken/sung vocals are both slightly distorted. Stripped down garage rock. Raw.
2)Nice tom-toms and simple abrupt guitar strumming. Again slightly distorted male/female spoken/sung vocals. Slightly faster midtempo.
3)Solid midtempo with tom-tom drums and simple raw guitar line. Male/female vocals are sung/spoken. Everything sounds at least a little distorted and raw.
4)Crazy overblown start/stop guitar with male vocals yelling “1, 2, 3” here and there. These are the only lyrics. Kinda fun and kooky.
5)Slower and dragging. Quiet male/female vocals. Guitar is slow strumming with slow drum smack on top. Very repetitive lyrics. Nice vocal harmonies. Ends with drones fading out.
