Album Review
The Bawd Of Euphony

Easily one of my favorite local bands (on cd that is, live is another story). Six Organs is one guy, Ben Chasny, and his music is a blend of moody-psychedelic-acoustic-raga-folk. Known for layered sonics, acoustic 6 & 12 string guitars, & percussion Six Organ records are beautiful. This record marks Six Organ’s first full studio recording for the major indie label drag City. A little more polished sounded than the older records but still moody and beautiful. Ben even hired on a free jazz drummer on a couple of tracks which marks I think the first time he has used a full drum set on record. This a beautiful record. Play it!

1*** (5:22) Fuck, free jazz drums & organ rumble along intensely for a couple of minutes and then enters the hobbit king Mr. Chasney with a typical six organs serenade. Beautiful!
2 (1:40) kind of upbeat little song. Great acoustic guitar work and verby vocals.
3** (5:36) Tabala sounding rhythm with quick fingered Nick Drake-ish guitar gives way to a Droney six organ’s chant dirge. Epic and moody as hell!
4*** (3:30) Great guitar work with subtle feedback and bass swells. Gets dirtier. Beautiful!
5* (3:54) Hopeful sounding melody with droney background guitar work. Vocal chant floats over top.
6*** (13:30) Standout track. Quick acoustic guitar line is repeated throughout. Other guitars get layered on top, then full on jazz drumming enters and sends the song to another realm
7* (3:12) Cover song of some obscure folk dude. Think Floyd’s Obscure by clouds. Guitar and vocals.
8** (2:58) Gentle guitar melody, beautiful instrumental ending.
