Jeff Kaiser – The Alchemical Mass / Suite Solutio

Two long pieces for large ensembles from LA improviser Kaiser. Excellent, inventive compositions combined with some great improv.

The Alchemical Mass
This is based on an actual Catholic Mass written by an actual alchemist near the end of the 15th century. Features a chorus along with an all-star cast of improvisers
**1. Has a sparse start, but the full big band and chorus comes crashing in halfway through for dramatic wailing
*2. A capella chorus
*3. Whispering background under trumpet solo
4. Squealing horns
*5. Big band, alternates between mellow and wild
*6. relatively Mellow finale

Suite Solutio
Weird and exciting group improv featuring local guitarist Ernesto Diaz-Infante
**7. Cool warped blues
*8. Crashing and thumping
*9. Skittery scraping and rumbling
*10. Speedy free soloing
*11. Starts with cymbals and gongs, then mellow trombone & flute Ben B 2/21/05
