Chris D. of the Flesh Eaters went out on his own after F.E. split ‘83. Divine Horsemen is country-folk, mostly acoustic based with pure dark Americana themes: murder, jealousy, smoky bars, pawn shops. D.’s vocals aren’t easy listening but this is right from the gut Southwestern noir. Features folks from Tex & The Horseheads, X and The Gun Club.
(((1))) Catchy, country-folk with flamenco guitar bits. The male-female dueting takes a few spins to get into, tho’.
((((2)))) Slow, strummy guitars, sullen vocals, beautiful fiddle playing.
(((((3)))) Swaggery & broken down yet straight forward and nice poppy feeling.
(((((4))))) Strummy, excellent female & male vocal parts. Total American noir.
((((5)))) Kinda Doors-like late 60’s roadhouse rock. Solid rythmn & totally obsessive vocals.
((((6))))) Trippy, psychedelic minimalism , echoed vocals, tweaked fiddle, random sounds.
(((7))) Hazy, mirage of drunken folk rock, slow to fast strumming.
((((8)))) Kinda like a twisted, early 70’s Stones. Nice guitar slides, very basic chords, D.’s awesome fury-laden vocals.
((((9)))) Country fried ramblin’, great guitar playing
(((((10))))) Wide open, big desert sky guitar chords. Beautiful duet. As if Nick Cave grew up in Bakersfield.
(((11))) Upright, twangy rock with excellent male & female vox.
(((12))) Mid-paced number about the disappearing Old West.
(((13))) 60’s garage feeling, mixed with X.
((((14)))) Catchy vocals, pretty chords, nice straight-ahead love song.
