Pastoral folk. This is the first CD rerelease of Vashti Bunyan’s 1970 folk masterpiece. The album is all gentle wisps of songs, most two minutes or less. Vashti’s voice is sweet and aching, the instrumentation always gentle and appropriate. This is a gorgeous, classic album. All songs are excellent, start with: 1, 18, 7, 5, 8, 9, 13, 16 *1. Lush, recorder driven 2. Intimate acoustic guitar 3. Childlike melody 4. Midtempo waltz *5. Faster, fiddle and banjo 6. String section is a bit much *7. Ghostly, entrancing *8. Darker, sad *9. Cheery, up-tempo 10. Wispy, dark 11. Recorder solo, major key 12. Fingerpicked guitar *13. Adorable, bouncy 14. Violin + vox 15. More orchestral *16. Delicate, a bit of harmonica 17. Disposable guitar picking *18. Sweet, simple tune |
