Ray Anderson / Mark Dresser – Nine Songs Together
Excellent, subdued abstract duets from trombonist Anderson and bassist Dresser. Anderson has a very bluesy style which is a nice counterpoint to Dresser’s more classical improv. The whole disc is pretty quiet (in inimitable CIMP fashion), the highlighted tracks should be suitable for radio play.
1. Quiet, abstract start, slowly builds
*2. Slow blues (but still free)
3. Relaxed and pleasant
4. Melancholy long tones, very quiet
*5. Forceful trombone leads the way
*6. Cutting swaths of sound
*7. Short and violent
8. Rushing waves of sound
9. Fluid rumblings
10. Very, very quiet
*11. Slow and bluesy
*12. nice call and response
13. Soft melody
