Recorded live during two tribute shows (taped for the radio) dedicated to Derek Bell, the Chieftans longtime harpist who died in 2002. Wonderful Celtic music (pipes, tin whistle, accordion, fiddle, bodhran, flute, some vocals). There is applause & talking, often introducing the next track so be careful because the music usually ends 15 seconds or more before the counter will say and then there’s an introduction to the next guest or next song. 1. Spoken introduction/applause. 2. A nicely lively set of reels. *3. Toe tapping goodness w/more than a touch of bluegrass. 4. Slow, sad, pipe/harp picks up into a midtempo whirl. *5. Starts slow, lovely & sad gets busy & happy w/a Spanish air. 6. Solo a capella voice in a traditional story song. Fairly slow. *7. Sweet & bright set of reels w/nice work from all. *8. A surprisingly jazzy piano-driven intro into fast, fast dance. *9. Great, fast vocal track w/great harmonies. Performed by Anuna. 10. Sad & folksy w/female vox/strings/pipes. Emotional. *11. Growling male vox in a fun, clap-along, sing-along classic. 12. Three pipes team up in a sweet, playful medley. *13. Uptempo fiddle dance w/claps & very fast step dancing. *14. A big & varied jam (nearly 13 min) that features the whole crew, gets the crowd going, and has energy to spare. Great stuff. 15. Delicate harp solo. Sad & mournful. A fitting tribute to Bell. |
