Sunlandic Twins, the

Kevin Barnes: "Sunlandic Twins is my foray into 21st century A.D.D. electro cinematic avant-disco." And Barnes has delivered something like that on his 7th full-length album following last year's awesome Satanic Panic in the Attack. There are the same beautiful soaring harmonies, random tempo changes, and bizarre lyrics, but thrown into this winning mix this time around are liberal amounts of drum machines and synthesizers. And the results are mixed, leaving a very top heavy album. The latter half is simply sort of, well, silly, which maybe what E6 is about to begin with but this is a messy forced type of silliness to mix the "disco" and "operatic". They're not half bad, but on an album with so many perfect pop songs it's just more obvious.

1. Galloping bassline, sweet chorus.
**2. Instrumentation builds to sort of a conga line beat and random trumpets/phasing synthesizers before tempo changes in a sea of handclaps.
**3. Hypnotic basslines and a cool melody.
"Let's have bizarre celebrations!"
4. More like older songs. Background chorus of "why?"s. Semi-political lyrics?
5. The "single". Trippy tunneling vibe.
6. Instrumental interlude.
**7. FCC: FUCK. A lot of sound here, just this side of excessive. Synths/drum machines galore.

9. Catchy beat and signature E6 operatic vocal harmonizing.
10. Gloomy and melodramatic. Sounds too much like it's straight out of a musical.
11. Sort of menacing/dark beat. Cool hiccup effect for chorus of "baba"s.
12. Sad, discordant pianos for first half—which sounds almost like it could have been on the soundtrack to The Virgin Suicides—then fizzles into wailing/lamenting/noisy vocals.
13. Slow closer.

Bonus EP
**1. Really fun and airy beats with middle breaking into more orchestral arrangement.
2. Narrative song about porn actor. Is "coital" an FCC violation?
3. Lead female vocals. Sugary love song.
4. More poppy like something by the Apples in Stereo.
