Tom Christensen – New York School
Light modern bop inspired by painter Jackson Pollack and poet Frank O’Hara of the New York school of modern artists who came to prominence in the 50s & 60s. Pretty straight stuff.. not what I would imagine when I see a Pollock painting, but interesting nonetheless. The deft, inventive percussion of Takeshi steals the show here for me (as is usually the case when he’s around).
*1. Bouncy med tempo
*2. Light & mysterious
*3. Slow, middle eastern sounding
4. Bland modern bop
5. Slow, mellow ballad
*6. Mellow flute start, then picks up to growling saxes. Ends with bop flourish
7. Oboe-led slow chamber music
