Orgasmic fem rock! Say hello to one of the best CDs of 2005. These ladies (ex Headcoatees, Stuck-Ups) hail from London, UK. This is their debut CD and it's on the same label that brought us the absolutely riveting Mr Airplane Man. Raw 60s garage-punk rock with seminal lady punk (Bikini Kill, Le Tigre) and post-punk (Slits, Kleenex/Liliput) influences. Explosive energy, fuzzed-up guitars, drilling rhythmic assaults and grooves. From bilingualism (Flemish/English) to yodeling, from rolling "r’s" to Kathleen Hanna-esque screaming, from dramatic intonations to improvisational vocal stunts, Kyra LaRubia's vocals make the A-lines the most exciting band since Mr Airplane Man, Electrelane and Le Tigre. Thanks to Billy Childish's production, this recording makes John Peel turn in his grave. Hold on tight, cuze the A-lines are about to blow your dj ass out KZSU's door and into the waters of Half Moon bay!
Play: 10, 5, 1, 2, 4, 6, 3
1. Full blown guitar/bass/drum assault. Half of the song's in English and the other half in Flemish.
2. Le Tigre-ish dance-y, swampy, fuzzy garage punker with Slits-que vocal. Another bilingual interpretation. Dig the fucking yodeling!!! Amazing vocals!!!
3. Cover of Arthur Lee and The Love's rockin' "Can't Explain". A classic 60s garage/psych unknown!
4. Awesome fast garage punker of no wave-ish dimensions. The Slits. Lots of clean stops and go's. Angular feel. This is great.
5. I’m on my knees! Fuck yeah !!! Bring it on! Fuzzed up guitars and commanding vocals!
6. This cover belongs to the one and only Liliput (seminal post-punk ladies contemporary to Slits, Raincoats, X-Ray Spex).
7. Distorto hip swinging garage number!
8. 75 seconds of psychotic screaming. What a punker !?!
9. Agit post-punker about being “agitated”. Cool ending.
10. Swingy, bluesy garage rock. The Black Keys! Ethereal and melodic vocals. Think Holly Golightly.
11. Fast pacing guitar/bass grooves and dark melodies (Sleater Kinney). Edgy chorus (the Slits). A short fuzzed up psych guitar solo.
