Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2005-07-20
Local band done good: dissonant electro rock, dirty synth-bass-drums-desperate vocals, clunky disjunct rhythms and song structures. Part of the 2003 Narnack/French Kiss wave that included Ex-Models, Dance Disaster Movement, Erase Erata, Numbers. Dissonant rhythms bring to mind better Gang of Four, the overwhelming dirty synths and mechanical moments feel Devo. Great stuff.

1) slow dirty intro kicks into upbeat electrorock
2) pensive dark discordant brooding bashing, vocs come in late
3) slower disjunct
4) i dont remember a girl in the band but the vocs are girlish, very Numbers'ish in their mechanical delivery, sparser mechanical feel
5) upbeat almost poppy, devo'ish somehow
6) a bit more developed songwise, mid paced disjunctness with near indie rock vocs
7) darker feel, fem vocs, more pensive a la Lost Sounds
8) another dark one, "you gotta wear protection"
9) some melodic vocals
10) robotic, computer modem noise feel almost
11) noisey synth, pounding drum, noisier overall
12) instrumental jam, builds and is less disjunct and more of a driving experimental prog feel a la Trans Am
