William Parker Quartet – Sound Unity
Excellent modern bop from some masters of the form. I read a review of this album which said something like “These guys could play this stuff in their sleep, but that doesn’t make it any less incredible to listen to”. My thoughts exactly.
All tracks are great.
*1. Light swing with cool dueling trumpet / sax solos
**2. Fast, intense excellent drum solo at end
*3. Med tempo swing with slow ballad style head/solos from the front line
**4. Pulsating groove
*5. Slow and bluesy
**6. Funky, slow and almost dubby. Great bass work
