Økapi - Where’s The Beef? (Inflate Label) Weird Italian guy named Økapi (“Ooh-kapi”?) doing strange sample art but sometimes strange enough where it sounds like it’s his own music. Everything from John Adams to Sun Ra to People Like Us is thrown in the mix. Probably the first sample artist I know of that samples other artists. Pretty original & compelling sounds.
(((1))) 20th Century Fox theme by way of Italian music & some ambient noodling.
((((2)))) Cows, sheep, strings, ‘55-’65 swinging soundtrack thingy, silly & super-fun!
(((3))) Random voices, blips, clangs & farts.
(((4))) Spacey, beeps ‘ala Dick Hyman or Les Baxter. Playful & cute.
((((5)))) Evil demon, random spliced up noises, voices, scratchy, glitchy,
(((6))) Bouncy, space-age bachelor pad loops with lots of oft-kilter beats, voice samples, confused but worthwhile.
(((7))) Some 50’s TV commerical: “What do women talk about...they hardly ever talk about oil filters?” & weird alien voice babbling.
(((8))) Relaxed guitar strum played underwater, backwards strings, occasional melodramatic vocals. Is this a long lost Nino Rota track?
(((9))) Minimal, twisted violin & other randomness.
((((10)))) Blippy, trippy ambient/chill ‘ala Biosphere
(((11))) Sporatic, squeals, ambience.
(((12))) Soundtrackish, chill to silly circus-like early 60’s electronic nuttiness.
((13)) R2-D2 playing a windchime with one arm & a million windows open on his laptop.
(((14))) Deep mellow chill with tabla-ish beats,
((((15)))) Horn-heavy jazz chopped & dissected
(((16))) Sad & happy strings & piano. mixed with glitchy stuff & ambient dub.
(((17))) Totally sporatic noises, “rrrrt”, “eeet”, “bowwpnt”.
(((18))) More looped & whipped up jazz & (what sounds like) traditional East Asian music served up nice & rhythmic.
(((19))) Noise, fishtank pump sounding blasts. Almost sound like someone’s speaking through the noise.
((20)) Upbeat to chill, medium paced beats.
(((21))) Neat mix up of scattered beats & random “meows” (?)
(((22))) Bassy, clicky beat, kinda techno but a little more random
(((23))) Slow moving ambience, many outtakes of Carla Peller saying “Where’s The Beef” from the infamous commerical. Annoying but amusing.
