Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2005-08-25
Is this ever fun! A perfect mix of harsh electrorock, with fun swingy western big band/bluesy and simple beats, and even twangy reverbed surf guitar, all glossed over with a glammy cool French cat singing in english and french. Wacky Moog lines, searing guitars, lots of dark sick themes and moments, this is a highly evolved Adam and the Ants, Bow Wow Wow, and Wall of Voodoo. As if their primordial soup was cooked in a post electroclash Berlin, stirred with the bones of Cabaret Voltaire. Play with Quintron, Suicide.

1) interesting dirty electro meets big band swing beat, like Adam and the Ants goes to Berlin and gets an electroclash enema
2) dirty harsh feedback synth/guitar over simple fun electrorock beat, definately channelling Cabaret Voltaire here, near instrumental as buried vocals appear a bit
3) whoa, surfy twang guitar under distorto mean bass, sinister beat, fantastic
4) swamp blues swing meets sloppy electrorock, with a girl singing back in the echo, weird and awesome, watch false ending (may as well end this ~10 secs early when you hear the dead air)
5) deep walking swing beat, heavy ass bass synth mesmerizing
6) treated vocs are in your face over slow beated glitchy sparse melody blips and mash-ups, strange
7) fingersnap intro, then a western/rockabilly twang takes over, like Carl Perkins on a psychedelic cocktail
8) big tom tom big band tribal beat filled in with interesting guitar and percussion tones, then midway spun around dj style for an unexpected crazy effect
9) dragster/high octane engine sounds, upbeat urgent electrorhythm
10) very chill and strange, almost Julee Cruise'esque
11) like a fucked up twisted electronic "I want Candy"
12) cool dark swingy rock feel, a bit poppier and straighter
13) sorta a bent instrumental version of the previous, more heady
