Obituary – Frozen In Time (Roadrunner) Obituary = one of the first names in the late 80’s/early 90’s Death Metal. Everything about this is a “comeback from the dead”: Obituary, Roadrunner releasing death metal, Scott Burns producing. This doesn’t stray too far from their previous releases: very basic & tight riffs, snarled vox (not “cookie monster”), pounding drums. Burns’ production is a little low in the mix but it may be to preserve and ‘old yet new’ feeling. Occasionally has a ‘stiff’ feeling but a overall worthy comeback
(((1))) Nice instrumental lots of big riffs & groove.
(((((2))))) Classic Obit style with a very basic, death/thrash metal approach.
(((3))) Steady, thudding tempo with doomy bits.
((4)) Redundant, slow & boring
((((5)))) Celtic Frost-ish riffage, solid lumbering battering. Nice breakdowns.
(((6))) Doom/death ‘ala their old one “Corrosive”
((((7))))) Weird but fun punkish/hardcore vibe
((((8)))) Sludgey, oozing classic Florida death metal.
(((9))) Nice groove, more of the mid-paced kinda NYHC meets doom/death thing.
(((((10))))) Very heavy solid, riffing into rippin’ fast thrashin’ headbanging action!
