Romantic classical piano with some jazz ideas. These tracks are pretty and warm-hearted, even while veering into hammering abstract territory (see intro of "Improvisation 4").

These are 20-minute-plus sax-piano duets where Walter Frank's piano seems to drive the shifting moods, with Braxton soloing on top. Braxton checks his Vulcan/abstract reputation to focus on a jazzy type of chamber playing. Frank's playing is far from staid; he digs up some thunderous passages and fleet, sprinkly playing.

DISK ONE
--------
1- Serious intro, fast and strong, then a quiet, mysterious stretch. -16:00 to about -10:00 is a strong chamber-jazz snippet. A playful pecking phase starts around -7:30, leading to some furious Braxton blowing followed by gentle ocean-waves piano soloing.

2- Quiet start into speedy piano march with fluttery fast sax. Fast, serious feel, sometimes dark. Quiets down around -19:30. Builds back up at -10:00 to some aggressive playing, damping down at around -7:00 for a lengthy, gentle conclusion.

DISK TWO
--------
3- Flowing and pretty. Around -18:00 builds to a nice hammering phase that gets ugly (in a good way), then cedes to a slower, nearly romantic phase. Playful phrases around -9:00 into gritty abstraction.

4- More action, less of a unified feel. Darting phrases start it off, moving into slower, prettier ground. At -13:00, a classical-recital feel that builds into thunder, ending at -7:00. Calm, serious finale.
