Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2005-10-26
Strange electronic noise and blurps and samples, living room improv “found sound” pots and pans noise, arty experimentation on one end, brain damaged Electroclash on prozac and Quaaludes on the other. Anti-music that stamps its foot declaring itself so. Out of Olympia’s 5RC so they obviously know all the hip people and have been on bills with all your trendy faves from Deerhoof to Decemberists, to the Gossip and Coachwhips. So even if you don’t like this you are supposed to. Unless of course you aren’t cool enough to “get it” (right?).

1) driving beat, repeated sample, strange
2) chill minimal live improv experimental, noodling with a violin, piano, and cardboard boxes
3) trippy Moog experimentation, not too harsh but nice low end bursts here and there
4) repeated voice “punks rock and roll” da da esque minimilism
5) cardboard box living room percussion/improv
6) simple Casio beat with strange almost vocal-like synth sound (or vice versa), a bit more interesting
7) fades in very slowly, like over almost a minute, into some quite high quality drone/noise, minimal
8) starts off with a scream and continues as a cacophony of screams and yells and vocalizations, like bad performance art
9) near avante electronics
10) very brief (9secs)
11) lots of wind up toys and toy instruments, a tuba, just randomness, something you might expect at an art-school performance
11) clinks, random tones, anti-music, interesting, almost as good as the dozens of other cds with an “X” on the tag in the a-file
