Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend

Altogether avante, classical, experimental, folk, medieval and goth. The result is simply georgeous advanced stuff. I don’t want to ruin any descriptions by overusing terms like “chamber” or “goth” as that’s simply wrong. Maybe its more correct to say this project is redefining the terms (theres “chamber pop”… how about “chamber noise”?). Fine use of strings, tape loops, female vocals, renaissance toned guitars. Current 93, Coil, later Swans/Angels of Light and Jarboe come to mind, but again, this is way beyond them or anyone. Um, can I gush any more? Trust me on this one, just this once....

1) swirling seemingly backwards masked fem vocs, bells, trippy, pretty, spooky
2) flute and tribal drums, indigenous feel, bells fade in
3) dark gothic guitar, slow plod with sampled voice repeats
4) wow, beautiful loops, low end, crunchy industrial tones
5) beautiful dark strings, layered and reverbed, hypnotic
6) 3 minute intro of gut guitar thing again, slowly and sparsely plucked, then a lush and beautiful medieval toned folkish thing with breathy trippy female vocals
7) noisey old 78 record samples lay down the foundation for looping spookiness
8) beautiful strings, female spoken vocs, chamber classical in feel for first half, then collapses into very spooky hollow dense creepiness and a reprise to the theme of the first half
9) looping dark echoing noise, industrial plod, shifts to pretty guitar arpeggio in a dissonant stew
10) pretty guitar etc, goth-folk feel, female spoken words and vocs, noise guitar comes in later and lays waste to it all 11) chill ambient mostly experimental electronic noise
