Holy crap! An LA super-group of sorts including Nigel Harrison (Blonde) and the guitarist from chamber-pop pioneers/masters W.A.C.O. and none other than the finest chanteuse on lead vocals/guitar, miss Eleni Mandell. Wow! And it works wonders, bringing to mind, indeed, the simple 70’s art pop of Blonde and Television, Joe Jackson, but with beautiful soaring vocals of Eleni. I guess it can be argued that anything she touches turns to gold, however with solid musicianship like this how can it fail. A decidedly retro tone in that it reflects what those late 70’s “new wavers” were channeling, simple rock/pop of the 50’s and 60’s. The same stuff that bands like Aisler Set so blatantly and unabashedly smash you over the head with these guys covertly and sexily slip inside your front pocket while youre busy checking out the band.
1) simple upbeat plod beat w/ beautiful melodies, vocs
2) lush indie pop feel
3) retro 70’s mod jangle dark pop, killer guitar and sassy vocs
4) jangle power pop a la blonde, with cool male backup vocs
5) slower more ballady swing, sexy vocs
6) simple driving stripped down pop with sex/fashion/money lyrics and strange samples underneath
7) slow grind hip-swinging dark pop with an exotica retro undercurrent
8) retro 60’s pop undertow this time, simple near twee-pop with “ba ba pah” backups
9) 50’s high school sock hop slow dance under the star ball feel
10) beatle’s “don’t let me down” melody, slow ballady
11) simple jangle pop a la velvet underground
12) a bit more driving, perfect hooky pop
13) triplet ballady pretty
