Gebhard Ullmann / Steve Swell Quartet - Desert Songs and Other Landscapes
Engaging free improv led by Swell on trombone and Ullman on sax and bass clarinet. This compositions have a 60s vibe, with a friendly jam session feel even in the most abstract parts.
All tracks are excellent.
*1. Free start followed by speedy groove about halfway through
2. Slow, exploratory
**3. Careening group improv, odd time signature changes
4. Buzzing improv builds slowly to bouncy groove
*5. Quiet bass solo starts, then speedy crashing solos
6. Rumbling start with languid improv
