Sax/bass/drums trio. Mostly a showcase for saxophonist and composer Bishop, with tracks that wander into group improv settings. Several tracks are fast-driven jazz grooves, with 10 and 12 standing out in particular. Others like 3 and 8 go for slow atmosphere and wouldn't be out of place on the ECM label. 1- Slow solo sax, a prologue 2- Energetic groove, bright and nicely cookin' 3- Mid/fast, with a casual, open feel 4- A quiet crawl 5- Boppin' but short 6- Perky, playful, mid/fast 7- Driving mid/fast 8- Slow, delicate 9- Gentle playful popping, sneaky 10- Mid/fast groove under spare, wailing sax. Slowly builds to a frenzy 11- Clarinet fragments 12- Upbeat and fast 13- Gentle midtempo flowing, quite nice .... Lasts 4+ minutes .... then a minute-long HIDDEN TRACK: An upbeat, bopping little groove, fun. | ||
