Album Review
The Bawd Of Euphony
Reviewed 2005-11-11
Yes the new Cerberus Shoal has arrived! These Northeasterners create some of the most inventive original sound out there. A full group ensemble, CB manipulate organic percussion, jangly guitars, swirly electronics, zany narratives and beautiful choral explosions all wrapped up in a Avant guard eastern European folkish blanket that fits oh so nice. CB have grown to this point from their Post-punk past much like their fellow makers of insanity The Sun City Girls. This record is pointedly political in nature from its title to its songs (“pie for president”, “taking out the enemy” and my favorite knock at Mr. Bush “junior”) The inside art has a banner that states “You are being lied to”. “Land” find CB reacting to the fearsome political climate of the Bush era with dark experimentalism along side beautiful melody and pop sensibility. Very moving and weird yet very accessible. This is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING STUFF!!, Listen, play it and love it! –tHE bAWd oF eUPHONy

1**(4:38) Spooky tones fade into a banjo led vocal beauty. Spooky but warm.
2**(11:35) Walking double-bass, creepy acordian and jangly guitar take us on a great ride. Very Eastern European with a long dark middle that builds back into a great climax. A standout track!
3**(3:40) Great casio beat begins into a goofy falsetto dance song. Upbeat and insane sounding! Various meltdowns make this very enjoyable. Karl’s creepy voice leads the way. Great vocal work. Spoof operatic in nature. Very funny feeling with a carnival twist.
4**(15:50) This is the epic track of the record. Drunken accordian begin this twisted narrative that is both demented and joyful at times. Slow dirgy bass expodes into a vocal frenzy. Absolute chaos happens in the middle. Fucking weird and brilliant all in one! Dr. Drano prepares for surgery! Fucking-A!
5**(10:42) This is a very accesable song, slow moody bass with drifting guitar and great vocal melodies. Great movements. Uplifting and creepy all in one.Another favorite.
6**(9:17) Ok so I love this whole fucking record. You just can’t go wrong. Slow trumpet and vocal begin. Wingly bango and effect ride along. This song just has Great vocals all the way around. Just listen to the words. “I’m pulling airplanes out of my brain waves”. Extremely moving and triumphant. Great narrative at the end! Ends early at 9:17 to reveal a secret trackWhat can I say. This is my Favorite track!
