Soft understated indie pop from North Carolina. If Zach Braff were to put together a movie soundtrack for "Garden State 2", I'm sure this band would be considered for inclusion. Their sound is subtle, folksy, & very pastoral in approach: like a late-60s Kinks album with all the cool rock songs taken out. Warm-sounding but not fun... the songs are a little too delicate for my taste but all are expertly crafted. The ideal music for Lazin' on a Sunny Afternoon. No FCCs. Try: 1,3,9,5 *1) Mid-tempo waltz w/ swaying pianos, woozy harmonies, & cyclical guitar picking. Nice. 2) Steady 5/4 groove with sleepy harmonies. Electric guitar low in the mix. *3) Sad, melancholy pop underscored nicely by doleful horns 4) Hymn-like w/ Hammond organ. Quiet & fragile. *5) Finally, a song with a little bounce. Mid-Tempo pop: upbeat yet reserved. Some distortion at song's end 6) Another short slow waltz with a precious Alt-Country feel 7) Slow wistful pop. 8) Light, warm, piano ballad *9) Mid-tempo & downright jaunty. Rolling, carefree, & playful. The record's most upbeat number. 10) Low-key pop until some shoegazing theatrics at the end. Long fadeout. 11) Melancholy, shimmering & sad. Pretty melody. 12) Features lazy banjo and flute. Picks up speed as it goes along. Could have been a Wilco out-take. 13) Fuzzy guitar pop w/ a hint of Psych. Guitar feedback climax. | ||
