Decca Reviewed 2005-12-06 | ||
“Yee haw, Cletus, don’ these boys sing funny?” Sorry, wrong Georgia. This is male choir polyphony, 5 singers, both a cappella and w/ traditional instruments. Great notes on songs, instruments and the Ensemble. The harmonies are strong, the folk songs quite good, and the entire collection fascinating. At times sounding like medieval Gregorian chants. Mostly slow or just barely midtempo and all good, especially these: 2. Laxy, sweet love song w/strings. 3. Bright and happy song about a garden & a girl. 5. Strings, midtempo song. 6. Elegant. A Christmas song w/a medieval feel. 9. Slow w/nice use of the tenor. 10. Dignified downtempo ode to Georga. Really pretty. 12. Bouncy flute/strings. Fast & bright love song. 13. Slow & spiritual – an ancient healing song. Fascinating. 16. Slow w/that haunting medieval sound. 19. Midtempo, quiet strings like a shamisan. A cool sound. 20. Melodic, midtempo. Extra good harmonies. 23. Pipes, soaring vocals, strings. Fast & bouncy. |
