Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2005-11-14
Rootsy soulful bourbon-fueled sassy/sexy female-fronted basic rock that channels the best of pre-beatles rock‘n’roll, soul, and blues. Ass-shaking, sweat drenched sex music. Not sure how else to describe this band besides hard driving rock when they want to be, sweet soulful Motown at others, but one thing always remains: infectious beats and vocals dripping with sex. If this band doesn’t get your hips shaking then you must either be dead or an indie rocker.

Note: this is their newest release piggy-backed with a re-release (tracks 14-20) of a formerly import-only 2003 release, “seven easy pieces”, wow!

1)simple rock, implied cowbell
2) swinging train chug rootsy, implied handclaps, dark western tinge 3) quintessential Cobras, retro love song feel, upbeat driving
4) mid paced romantic dark love song
5) upbeat rockin, driving with the Swiss Miss Instant Cocoa yodel
6) garagey sexy dance rock “hot dog”
7) poppy melodies, slightly more standard rock
8) motown handclap beat, with minor surf tone and guitar licks
9) cover of classic sad beauty forelorn waltzy love song that Eleni Mandell does so fantastically as well too
10) minor mean blues rock tone
11) basic 12 bar rock that this band does like no other
12) title track sorta, melodic and sweet
13) “c’mon baby lets do the twist” like chubby checker probably only did behind closed doors with groupies (certainly not his wife)

Seven Easy Pieces
14) hand clap, fucking crazy fuzz guitar leads
15) smoking retro tinged glam garage
16) upbeat rockin
17) folky singalong/answer call, down home backwoods blues fun
18) ballady love song triplet with those irresistible lips up to the mic
19) rockin country-blues rock
20) swingy triplet beat, male vocs lead in on this dark dirty blues rock, but of course that damn woman appears and slays us all
