A female kora player! She’s something of a champion for women’s rights in Mali, especially their right to produce music and have access to instruments traditionally reserved for men. Trained by Toumani Diabate. She’s a dextrous player, and the compositions are very cool, mostly midtempo and featuring her kind of shrill (though not unpleaseant) voice leading a female chorus.

1. Relaxed and sweet. Nicely swaying.
*2. Gets the head nodding. Good showcase for her kora.
*3. A more upbeat bounce w/nice vocals.
4. High vocals, balafon accents, midtempo.
*5. A capella intro. Kora/balafon/chorus. Nice percussion. Mid/up.
6. Fast w/tripping vocals and strong work from all.
7. Spoken intro. Sweet, midtempo w/a bright sound.
8. Starts slow, gets into a catchy perc-driven blend.
*9. A touch of the Carribbean. Sweet, playful, midtempo Calypso.
10. High chorus, drums, mid/uptempo blend.
11. Relaxed quiet version of #3. Sweet and lowkey.
12. Acoustic, quiet version of #6. Just voice & kora. Lovely.
