Ambient industrial, if you like, or ambient noise. Label sticker compares them to Eno and Jazzkammer, which is more than fair—much of this has the character of an updated version of Fripp & Eno's “An Index of Metals”.
Best: 8, 1, 2, 6
Skittering drums and ominous overbearing drones.
Fades in from 1. A bit of a wobbly background and a higher drone, which mellows and warms up by halfway through. The end is Fennesz-like bliss.
Desultory double-bass plucking and bowing, with some drum brushwork. Starts to liven up 2' in, when lightly buzzy synths enter. Very dark.
Blips of pizzicato cello playing throughout. Very dry/hoarse background loop—like scrapes of sandpaper on wood. This becomes more even and some clattery noises, higher tones, and light percussion enter.
Hard to understand vocal samples. High, vaguely rushing-wind-like drone, with a distorted edge.
Similar quality to the drone from 5, but with some guitar playing providing something to hold on to. The drone mutates and intensifies, sounding very “Index of Metals”-y, with increasing distortion and feedback, but always heard as if underwater—it's not confrontational distortion. (The slow build helps with this.) Like a far away howling.
Vocal sample from a nature program. Low string sounds (like the beginning of Tangerine Dream's “Birth of Liquid Plejades”, though these are synthesized—or it could be a heavily treated accordion) and some light clatterings. The sampled vocals sort of ruin this for me.
Low rumbly drone with some high accordion.
Lots of low rumbling noises with some scrapy extended-technique cello playing.
