Subtle, floaty jazz from a sizable band: 2 saxes, THREE guitars, bass, and legend Motian on drums. Very nice stuff, pretty and relaxed, with pieces that harken back to classic '50s and '60s writing, with that ECM floaty freedom all around. Dreamy/floaty guitars match up with burly sax lines; even at slow tempos, the saxes are like a wake-up buzzer sometimes (see 9).

Motian turns 75 on 3/25/06. Here's how cool he is: He makes a full-time living at jazz even though he refuses to travel! Anybody wanting him on their CD -- and quite a few ECM artists do -- has to come to *him* in New York.

- Soft swing, criss-crossing sax lines
- Slowish, bluesy, smoky, dreamy. Heavy on the melody.
- Dreamy mid/slow, exotic "world" feel
- Breezy soft bop, Calypso
- Gentle but burly theme, midtempo. Rock-like guitar solo
- Creeping theme, slowish
- Midtempo, happy theme
- Soft, peaceful
- Dragging tempo, into weird dreamy solos
- Slow early-morning feel
- Slow, lingering, delicate; a bit haunting
- Brisk, warm. Upbeat but floating.
